Ballasted roofing of a private house in Poiana Domneasca

A ballasted roof made of PVC membrane was installed on this project.

A layer of vapor barrier film was applied over the concrete base. The insulation was done using extruded polystyrene (XPS) boards. A cementoplast layer was used to form the slope, and a dry-method screed was applied over it.
The waterproofing layer consists of a 2.0 mm thick PVC membrane, Rhenofol CV, laid over a protective geotextile layer. Thanks to the ballast over the waterproofing layer, the PVC membrane does not require mechanical fastening to the substrate.
Before applying the gravel ballast, a drainage-protection layer of dimpled membrane and geotextile was installed.

Using ballast on the roof not only provides additional protection for the PVC membrane against mechanical damage and UV exposure but also ensures the required fire resistance level, making it suitable for solar panel installation on the roof surface.

The use of modern ballasted roofing systems with PVC membranes in Moldova is a reliable, durable, and efficient solution for buildings of any type. Such roofs do not require mechanical fastening of the membrane, and the ballast serves as added protection for the waterproofing layer.
